Are you looking for some fall fun Chihuahua activities you can do together? I love fall. The cool crisp air, sweaters, and even plaid are a “few of my favorite things”, to quote Julie Andrews. By September I am over the hot days of summer, not looking forward to winter, but for what feels like a brief moment in time, I get to enjoy all the wonderful things that fall or as some say, autumn brings. That is when I like getting outdoors and enjoying the weather, the beautiful foliage and so do my Chihuahuas.
FALL FUN CHIHUAHUA ACTIVITIES
I recently went on a quest looking for things I could do in the fall that my Chihuahuas could enjoy too. Here is what I found that sounded like the most fun for me and my Chihuahuas and I hope you find them helpful too.
FUN WITH YOUR CHIHUAHUA
- My favorite game is “Treasure Hunt”. Dogs love to use their awesome sense of smell to sniff out fun things. Like their favorite treats! Find fun hiding places to hide their favorite treats in your backyard. This is a fun game when the weather is too cold to play outdoors to play in the house. It’s without a doubt my Remedy’s favorite game in the world!
2. Is your Chihuahua a digger? My Remedy and Cora love to dig. Sometimes they dig in all the wrong places, like on my couch, on the carpet, etc. A fun fall activity that will satisfy that need to dig is to purchase a cheap child’s sandbox. Fill it with some safe play sand and hide their favorite toys for them to dig up in the backyard.

3. Did you love jumping in a pile of leaves when you were young? Me too! Your Chihuahua will too. Rake up a pile of leaves and encourage your Chihuahua to jump in. Jump in with him. It is so much fun you’ll feel like a kid again and your Chihuahua will be delighted with the attention. Don’t take my word for it … just go do it!
4. Do you love to camp? Fall is a great time to enjoy the cool crisp air and all the beautiful colors. Find a pet-friendly campground with lots of space for your Chihuahua to run around. You’ll be sleeping in a tent, cooking outdoors, there will be such new sights and sounds and smells, your Chihuahua will love it!
5. Do you and your family love to go to the pumpkin farm every fall? One of my favorite fall chihuahua activities is going to the pumpkin patch. Some will allow your dog to come along too. Be sure to call ahead to check that your local farm will allow your Chihuahua to come too. Be aware of the long spiky vines because they can really hurt your Chi’s paws.

6. Local fall dog-friendly activities. Where we live every October our community has what is called “woofstock”. It’s a time for all dog lovers to come and browse all the cute doggy things in the different booths and meet other dog lovers — especially the Chihuahua lovers — and enjoy the other activities planned. They have dog races, costume contests, and all sorts of fun things for hoomans and doggos alike.
Your local community may have something similar. It may be called something altogether different, like “Octoberfest” perhaps, so check it out. Our “Woofstock” is always tons of fun and we try to go every year. One caution, however, I have to watch out for my Chihuahuas when they are walking. There are some mighty big dogs (and people) that could easily not notice them and step on them. I always carry mine when we are in a crowd. Another suggestion is a stroller. I see a lot of those there too and you can carry other things in it too so you’ll be hands-free for shopping all the booths. 🙂

7. A Day Trip Fall Foliage Excursion. Do you love to post pics of your Chihuahua on Facebook groups? Who doesn’t, right? Fall is a great time to explore your farther-flung communities. It’s the best and most ideal way to get those beautiful photo ops with the gorgeous autumn hues in the background. Make it an adventure trip. Stop at dog-friendly places along the way and take lots and lots of photos. I suggest you take along some NomNom chicken or beef jerky for you Chi. It’s my Chihuahuas favorite treat!
8. Even if you don’t celebrate Halloween, taking pics of your Chihuahua in cute costumes is always fun and another opportunity to post some adorable photos of your pooch on those Facebook groups and on Instagram. If you don’t like the usual scary or spooky ones, there are some adorable ones that your Chi could wear any time of the year.
