Caring For Chihuahuas Made Easy

Nadia has written a very helpful book for all Chihuahua guardians. Are you considering getting a Chihuahua? You definitely should read this book.

My Review:

“Caring For Chihuahuas Made Easy” is very detailed and well written. The first section is everything you need to know about Chihuahuas in general. There, she goes into detail about the AKC standards and the array of beautiful colors you can find in Chihuahuas. She explains what a “Blue Chihuahua” and a “Merle Chihuahua” is (my Remedy Jane is a blue Merle). My favorite chapters are, “Is A Chihuahua The Right Dog For You?”, “Never Buy A Chihuahua From a Pet Store”, and “Tea Cup Chihuahuas”, “Micro Chihuahuas”.

The negative traits she describes in the first section —  “barks easily, does not adapt easily to change in environment, is suspicious of strangers and will growl at them” — are all true of Chihuahuas and it is important to know them before you bring one home, however, those traits can be channeled into positive traits if you take the time to train and socialize them when they are puppies. You can (and should) socialize an adult Chihuahua if you rescued an adult Chi. However, it is more difficult and will take time and patience.

There is a short paragraph on socializing in that chapter, but if you read my blog then you know how strongly I believe in socializing any dog, but especially Chihuahuas, because of the negative traits above that she describes. I do wish there were more than a paragraph on the subject.

The sections she writes about Health and Nutrition are very well written and so informative. She tells about the health problems that are fairly common in Chihuahuas and what not to feed your Chihuahua.

“Caring For A Chihuahua Made Easy” is an excellent book and tells you much of what you need to know about caring for a Chihuahua. I definitely recommend this book and think it should be on all Chihuahua parents and guardians bookshelf, that is why it is on my list of recommended reading.
