ElPaso Animal Hospital, Where My Dogs Are Loved
ElPaso Animal Hospital and my dogs have a long history together. I’ve taken my pets to ElPaso Animal Clinic (now Hospital) since 1990 beginning with our kitty, Miss Prissy. (RIP Miss Prissy) All my Chihuahuas have been patients there from the day I brought them home. Their tiny little clinic has grown so much that they were literally bursting at the seams!
A Little About This Wonderful Veterinarian Hospital
The clinic began in 1978 with Dr. Gary Oehmke as the sole owner and veterinarian. Dr. Jeff Herod became Dr. Oehmke’s partner and co-owner of the clinic soon after. This dynamic duo were the only vets for many years and in my opinion the two best veterinarians around. Apparently, considering their growth, I’m not alone in that opinion!
In 1990 when I began going there, they were the only two doctors. As the years went by, they added two more vets and it remained that way for many years. When I got my first Chihuahua, I was pretty inexperienced as a dog owner. He was my baby and I was a nervous new mom. I took him to the clinic for every little thing. I used to tell people that I was known there as the “crazy chihuahua lady”. Many years later, I told Dr. Herod that, and he chuckled and said: “actually, just the opposite is true”. I’m not sure how he meant that, but I took it as a compliment. Don’t miss: 5 Ways to Save $$$ on Your Vet Bills
My New Job
Over the years, I began to know and like all the staff there and they knew me. As I already mentioned, that little clinic grew and grew until it had outgrown the tiny little building where they were. In May of 2018, they opened a new state-of-the-art facility and that is where I now work.
Almost a month ago, (July 2018) I was looking for a part-time job and my first thought was how I’d love to work at the clinic with all the lovely people there. So, I applied, not expecting to actually get hired, as I had heard they were only hiring full-time.
I was called in for an interview and it must have gone well because an hour after I got home, I received the call that they wanted to hire me.
They now have seven veterinarians (Meet the vets) and a lot of new staff. Since they opened, their already successful practice has grown by 50% and still growing! I love all the doctors there, and everyone I work with! I love my job. Except for the inevitable times that you witness when someone loses their beloved pet through death. I don’t think I will ever get used to that part of the job. 🙁
