Fall is in the air! Smell the fresh, crisp air, sweater weather! Summer is over, leaves are changing, and school is back in session. So, you have more time on your hands and you want to get creative. Fall is the best time to get your creative juices flowing and I have some inspiration for you!
Are you making Halloween costumes? Decorating for fall? Planning a trip to the fabric store? While you are choosing all that Halloween and fall fabric for your projects, why not pick up a little extra fabric for these great doggie DIY projects just for your Chihuahua?
Chihuahua Fall DIY Dog Toys
Your Chihuahua — just like human kids — get bored with the same ole’ toys. So with that extra fabric, you just bought, make some Chihuahua Fall DIY dog toys. After the fall, put them away and bring them out again next fall. This will save you tons of money because you don’t have to keep buying new toys to keep your Chihuahua interested and happy!
Take the extra fabric in all the different fall prints and cut various shapes, bones, pumpkins, leaves, etc. Cut identical doubles of each shape. Sew the edges together inside out like you would if you were making a pillow. Leave a small opening at one end and flip it so that the print is now showing on the outside. Stuff them old fabric scraps, or pillow stuffing. Add some crinkly paper or bubble wrap for added interest. You can also buy and add in a squeaky. Sew up the end. That’s it!
Dog Bed Cover
When decorating your home for fall, don’t forget your Chihuahuas favorite bed. This Fall Chihuahua DIY idea involves his favorite bed. Make a duvet for the bed and add even more fall to your decor. Measure the size and shape of your Chihuahua’s bed adding a few extra inches. Sew the edges together inside out leaving one end open. Sew a zipper or add buttons on the open end. Flip the fabric so the print is on the outside and slide the bed into the new duvet. After fall is over, remove it and keep for next fall.
Halloween Apparel
Don’t want to get all fancy with your Chihuahua’s costume this Halloween? Not a problem! You can easily turn any baby onesie into an adorable instant Chihuahua costume. First, make sure that you purchase the correct size fo your Chi. For up to 7 pounds, you should buy a newborn onesie. For 7 to 12 lbs you should get a 0-3 months onesie.
Next, cut a straight line across the part with the snaps to cut them completely off. This leaves armholes for your Chihuahua’s front paws and the bottom open so they can still do their business. Hem the raw edges by folding over the edge and tack it down with a sewing machine or with a needle and thread.
Then you can take some of that extra fall fabric and cut out letters or objects and simply sew them on or use a fabric glue and heat gun. Make it say anything you want. Or use your imagination to decorate it as you wish.
Make Fall DIY Treat Jars
You know what makes great treat jars for your Chihuahua’s favorite treats? 8-16 oz. mason jars! Put one in your car so you always have treats on your way to the pet store or to the dreaded vet clinic.
Decorate them for fall by taping a colorful leaf or a paper cut out of a pumpkin or any shape you like and paint the jar right over it. Peel off the leaf or the paper cutout leaving a decorative window in your now beautiful dog treat jar.
Pumpkin Seeds Make Healthy Seasonal Dog Treats
When you scoop out the pumpkin(s) this fall soak it to get all the stringy goop off them. Let the seeds dry and you can crush them and sprinkle right into your dog’s food bowl or give them one at a time as a special fall treat. Please make sure you use only seeds from a fresh pumpkin. Don’t try this from a pumpkin that has sat for long and gotten rotten or rancid.
Pumpkin is good for your Chihuahuas digestive health, his urinary health and helps with weight loss. Who knew?
