UPDATE September 9, 2021:
It is with a very heavy heart that I report we lost our beautiful Pebbles on August 30, 2021, at the age of 15. We are devastated! She left a great big hole in our hearts and we will miss her forever and think about her every single day for the rest of our days. 😪
I want to introduce you to each of my Chihuahuas. You can also meet my other two, but this page is to introduce you to Pebbles, my Princessa. You can meet all rest of my beautiful Chihuahuas by clicking the following links. “Meet Chico” “Meet Remedy Jane” “Meet Corazón (Cora)” “Meet Winston“, We recently lost our beautiful Chico, but you can read about him and watch his tribute video from his link above.
How Pebbles Came To Us:
How she came to live with us is a rather long story, but I will try to make it short. About 13 years ago (at this writing) our son came home to live with us after a divorce until he could find a place of his own. Naturally, under the circumstances, he was a little depressed.
One day he mentioned he would like to have a dog. We all know how comforting having a dog to love can be. Well, we discussed the type or breed of dog he would like to have. Being a mom, I wanted to help him, but I also had my preferences in dog breeds. 🙂
I offered to let him have a dog at our home while he was living with us, but only if it was a Chihuahua! Although he prefers bigger dogs he loves all animals so he thought that was a great idea.
The Search
We searched at the shelters, and anywhere we could think of when we came across a veterinarian clinic that had some Chihuahua puppies that needed homes. There were three long-haired and two short-haired.
I immediately fell in love with a little long-haired chocolate and cream one. I tried very hard to talk him into getting him or her — I’m not really sure now. But he was adamant that he wanted a tiny little fawn and white short-haired female. He named her Pebbles because the fawn-colored markings on her back looked like little Pebbles.
Fast forward a few months and our son found an apartment he wanted, but they didn’t accept pets. That was fine with us, actually better than fine! I had tried not to get attached as I knew she wasn’t mine, but that didn’t work out so well. By the time he found that apartment I was so in love with her and dreading the day she moved out — oh, and I’d miss my son too.
I’ve asked him many times since then what drew him to her. He doesn’t have an answer. I guess the heart wants what the heart wants. But he could not have chosen a sweeter more loving and submissive little dog, because there is no other like her! I wish now that I had taken the little chocolate and cream one home too, but am so glad he chose little Pebbles! At this writing, she is 13 years old and weighs 4.5 lbs. (2.04 kg)
Pebble’s Personality
Pebbles was diagnosed with DCM at only 6 years old, now at this writing, she is 13 years old. You can read more about what that is and her journey with it HERE. Her prognosis was very grim, but I’m happy to report that she is living a happy, quality life thanks to her change in diet. We began by changing her food to one that is formulated by a veterinary nutritionist.
Her sweet personality really shines and everyone that meets her loves her. She is shy at first with strangers, both the two-legged and the four-legged, but if you give her time, she soon warms up to them. She is so expressive! Just one look at her and you can almost read her mind. No, I did not draw or tattoo her eyebrows on, they are natural (people have asked)!
ChiChis And Me Model
Pebbles is such a sweet and submissive little Chihuahua she is our photo model most often. Remedy does modeling also. Pebbles is a little more stubborn and if she is not in the mood, she doesn’t always cooperate. Remedy will do anything for a treat! I haven’t tried it, but I’m pretty sure she would stand on her head if I was offering her a special treat to do it!
Favorite Game
Pebbles doesn’t really have a favorite game. She has always loved her walks and to just play. I think the following video of her says it all. She can be very mischievous.
Pebbles favorite game is entertaining us!
Favorite Toy
She doesn’t have a certain toy that is her favorite, she loves them all, as long as they are pink! Seriously, dogs don’t see colors, as well as humans, do, but she always, always pulls out the pink ones and those are the only ones she will play with.
Pebbles is our adult Chihuahua ambassador. She is here to help you with anything about Chihuahuas as an adult. Whether it’s health, nutrition, training, or behavior, she is here to help!
