A tiny two-year-old Chihuahua named Pearl was just declared the world’s shortest dog living by the Guinness World Records. She is 9.14 cm (3.59 in) tall and 12.7 cm (5 in) long.
To put that in perspective she is about the same length as a dollar bill. When she was born she only weighed 28 g … less than a pound!
Pearl belongs to Vanesa Semler from Florida, USA. But astonishingly she also owned the previous record holder. Miracle Milly was only 9.65 cm (3.8 in)!! Miracle Milly died in 2020 at age nine. Pearl is the daughter of Miracle Milly’s identical sister.

Semler says “We’re blessed to have her and to have this unique opportunity to break our own record and share Pearl and her amazing news with the world.”
She says that Pearl eats a healthy diet of high-quality chicken and salmon. She loves to “dress up nice” and she comes with me on shopping trips, Semler says.

Even though Chihuahuas are the smallest dog breed they have not yet achieved the title of the shortest dog ever (Pearl is the shortest dog living).
The title of the shortest dog ever belongs to a Yorkshire Terrier named Silvia. Silva was 7 cm (2.8 in). Silvia was from the United Kingdom and diet in 1945 before turning two.

Although many people want teeny tiny Chihuahuas (sometimes erroneously called “teacups”) they often have health issues and most don’t live very long. Smaller, although very cute is not always better. We welcome your comments! Add your thoughts about this article in the comment section below:

healthy = love
Your dog’s health starts in the gut. A better diet means softer coats, more energy, better breath, and smaller, more consistent stools. Your dog can’t tell you if they’re healthy, but you can tell when their health improves.
My Cora loves it so much and gets so excited for mealtime she dances!
